Optimum charging of the supply battery

The problem is well known and always annoying: despite a powerful alternator, the on-board battery is not fully charged even on longer journeys. This is due to long cable runs, small cable cross-sections and widely varying charge states of the starter and on-board battery. In addition, various consumers have to be supplied with power during the journey. The VOTRONIC charging converters, which charge the on-board battery quickly and gently in accordance with the battery manufacturer’s specifications, provide a remedy. Even on short journeys, the battery is charged with the full charging current. Losses caused by long charging cables in large vehicles and voltage fluctuations at the alternator (Euro 6) are compensated for.

Vehicles with 12 V and 24 V on-board voltage are optimally supplied by selecting the appropriate device. Galvanically isolated, of course. This prevents voltage breakdown in the event of a fault, unwanted reverse discharges and suppresses interference in the vehicle electrical system. The compact devices are in no way inferior to the identical mains chargers. Here too, an intelligent microprocessor controls the robust power electronics and ensures optimum charging and safe operation. The 6-stage charging characteristics can be set for classic lead-acid, gel & -AGM batteries and modern lithium LiFePO4 batteries. Connected consumers are automatically supplied, even if the vehicle electrical system is heavily loaded. The automatic power control ensures the necessary safety and starting capability of the vehicle.

  • Automatic, adjustable power control ensures that the starter battery is charged by the alternator as a priority when the vehicle’s electrical system is under heavy load, thus ensuring that the vehicle can be started again immediately
  • If there is simultaneous consumption in parallel and buffer mode, the battery continues to be charged or is kept full. The charging converter automatically calculates and monitors the adjustment of the charging times
  • Built-in temperature compensation automatically adjusts the charging voltage to the battery temperature independently of the alternator; battery temperature sensor art. no. 2001 required
  • Simple installation, no intervention in the vehicle’s starter circuit required, device is connected in the charging line to the supply battery
  • Also prepared for operation with EBL (electric block) and EVS
  • Built-in on-board filter enables problem-free parallel operation with solar systems, mains chargers and other charging sources on one battery
  • Galvanic isolation between input and output ensures excellent suppression of interference through absolute separation of the battery circuits, clean earth conditions on both sides even with long supply cables, safety in the event of a fault (no breakdown 12V/24V or 24V/12V possible) and reliably prevents unwanted back discharges of the battery circuits
  • Measurement input also enables pure voltage control of the device if required
  • The device can also be used for clean battery charging further away from the alternator in large vehicles, trailers, supply containers, etc.

For higher power requirements, it is also possible to operate two devices in parallel if the alternator is sufficiently dimensioned. The charging capacity can thus be extended to up to 12V/180A (2x 90A).

The charging converters are also characterised by their compact design, low weight (high-frequency switching transformer, switch-mode technology) and powerfully dimensioned power components, thus ensuring full charging power even with long charging cables and strong voltage fluctuations at the starter battery (EURO standard 6, 6 + plus vehicles). 6 operating displays provide information about the operating status of the device at all times. The connection of a remote control is provided ready to plug in and is easy to realise.

Please also note: Charging modern lithium batteries with devices designed for batteries with classic lead-acid technology (also gel or AGM) may mean that you cannot fully utilise the technical advantages of this new technology (capacity, number of cycles, etc.).
